CTO at eMentalist Vienna, Austria

I work on AI, data & software products.

I’m Patrick, CTO at eMentalist in Vienna. Most days I’m somewhere between product questions, architecture, code, and a whiteboard.

From hands-on data science to CTO

Research and product work

Usually from the first prototype onward

Still hands-on

01 / What I do

A mix of AI, data, and engineering.

The exact balance changes from project to project. These are the areas I spend most of my time on.

01

Applied AI

I work on LLM applications, retrieval systems, document search, and agents that fit into existing workflows.

02

Data & machine learning

Much of my earlier work focused on statistical modelling, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and time-series data.

03

Architecture & teams

Architecture, technical strategy, team leadership, and the practical trade-offs involved in shipping and maintaining software.

02 / Selected work

A few things I’ve worked on.

Not case studies—just a short overview of the kinds of problems that tend to land on my desk.

01Documents / Search / LLMs

Contract analysis

Extracting key details, searching clauses, and comparing contracts, versions, and supplements.

02Agents / Tools / Workflows

AI agents for internal workflows

Agents that work with documents, business data, APIs, and existing algorithms to carry out multi-step tasks.

03Extraction / Checking / Automation

Document processing

Classifying documents, extracting and checking data, and comparing information across contracts, invoices, and reports.

04Time series / Anomalies / Operations

Predictive maintenance

Using sensor and operational data to spot anomalies, estimate failure risk, and help teams decide what to inspect.

03 / How I work

I usually stay involved all the way through.

  1. 01

    Understand

Get clear on the problem, the people involved, and the decision that needs to improve.

  2. 02

    Design

Compare possible approaches and choose one that fits the actual constraints.

  3. 03

    Build

Prototype, test, implement, and connect it to the surrounding software.

  4. 04

    Operate

Watch how it behaves, fix what breaks, and improve it with real feedback.

04 / About

A bit about me.

I’ve been at eMentalist since 2017, moving from hands-on data science and engineering into the CTO role.

I lead a multidisciplinary team and help set our technical direction. I’m still involved in the day-to-day work: talking with customers, drawing up architectures, reviewing implementations, testing ideas, and helping with the difficult bits when something reaches production.

I’ve worked across real estate, industrial IoT, energy, the public sector, hospitality, communications, and document-heavy business processes. I enjoy the point where a new domain starts to make sense and the technical problem becomes concrete.
